Performing Arts

The Middle School Performing Arts program includes music for Grades 5 and 6. These classes will present musical numbers in the annual Middle School Christmas program. This year's classes meet weekly. 5th and 6th graders may participate in middle school plays as well, depending on rehearsal times.

Grade 7 and Grade 8 students may elect to take a semester of Perfoming Arts class. These courses combine music and drama and are taught jointly by music and art teachers. Grade 8 students will chime, sing, dance and present a play in the Christmas show. Grade 7 students will present a production in the spring.

Drama I is taught bi-weekly throughout the year. Upper School students who elect to take this course will present a number of productions throughout the year. They will participate in the Upper School Christmas program and the Broadwater Players' spring show as well.

Entrance to Vocal Ensemble is by audition only for Upper School students. These are Broadwater's finest vocalists and make up the small singing group, Varsity Voices. The class, which meets biweekly, focuses on vocal technique, basic music theory and ensemble group singing. Acapella four part harmony is emphasized. Varsity Voices performs at several venues throughout the school and the community including Shore Memorial Hospital's tree lighting ceremony, the annual Unity Breakfast, Juleps by the Bay, local nursing homes and Broadwater sporting events. They participate in Broadwater's concerts both as a group and as individuals and perform in their own Christmas concert, singing, and playing instruments.

Chorale is the Upper School singing group open to all interested students. Chorale performs twice a year for Broadwater's Christmas Program and the Spring Concert. Memorization, vocal technique and ensemble singing is learned.
