Middle School Performing Arts Students in Grades 5-8 meet daily for one quarter of the academic year. Students sing independently and with the group, on pitch and in rhythm, with correct diction and posture. They are taught to sing expressively, with appropriate dynamics, phrasing and interpretation. They demonstrate an understanding of music notation, tempo and articulation. Students practice public speaking and basic stage presence exercises. Daily performing arts activities are incorporated in the lessons and rehearsals.
All students participate in the annual Christmas program, vocally or on stage performing. Grade 5 students are showcased on stage for Grandparents Day. Grades 7 and 8 can elect to join the hand chime choir. Chimers perform for the Christmas program, Closing Ceremony, and events in the community. The students are exposed to various song selections, chime arrangements and Performing Arts skills.
